What is the MB storage limit?
The storage limit is the amount of hard drive space that
you may use on your PGVHosting account. This includes the file size of your gedcom, the amount of database
space that you use, and the amount of space you use for other files like pictures of your ancestors.
As an example under the Basic Plan, a 5000 individual Gedcom file size averages around 2 MB.
The database space for this Gedcom will also be around 2 MB.
The PhpGedView application requires less than 10 MB. That is a total of 14 MB, which leaves
you 186 MB for pictures and any other files you want to put on your website.
This should be more than enough room. Part of your monthly fee is used to pay for this space.
What is the Monthly transfer limit?
The monthly transfer limit represents the amount of files
you send out in a period of time. This is also called network bandwidth and it is the most valuable
commodity on the internet. Everytime someone accesses your site, some of our network bandwidth is used.
The average PGVHosting account uses less than 0.5 GB (500 MB) per month. Most of your monthly fee goes
towards renting this network bandwidth.
What happens if I go over my storage or transfer limits?
If you are found to be exceeding your storage or transfer allotments, you will receive a notification
email and then we will work with your to help you reduce your limits or upgrade.
We will NOT automatically charge your account or make any changes without your permission.
Why do you set storage and transfer limits?
If one account takes up all of the storage space or all of the network bandwidth, that wouldn't leave
anything for the rest of the accounts. So we have established these limits to try and make it fair for
everyone. We have tried to set generous limits and we do not anticipate that you will go over these
limits.
Need more storage or bandwidth than our plans offer?
We can make exceptions to the limits, at a cost of $1 per GB. Please contact us at
